PS long walk to freedom

today, 20 years ago, Mandela was released from prison.

I was 5. I don`t remember it at all. but it changed my entire country. (you know how much i love Madiba from my last post about him)

viva madiba
amandla amandla

last night i watched Invictus... it was good, bar the usual ridiculous south african accents (matt damon didnt do too badly though, props) and it made me quite rah rah south africa...
{also, hearing afrikaans in japan blows my mind... }

and now i REALLY want to go to ellis park and watch a game of rugby and drink a Castle.
(good article from The Guardian here)

I saw Invictus last week.

Awesome movie, apart from Francois Pienaars girlfriend... she just annoyed the hell out of me (Same old Katey Perry syndrome i guess)

Mr Freeman played an Excellent Madiba i thought (he even got the dance down to a T)

I love Madiba too. I was 10 when he was released. I remember we aere all sat atound watching it on TV and I had no idea what was going on and I was like, why are we watching a man walking? But I could tell it was an important event, even then :)

I'm a bad South African! I've still not seen the film in spite of all the suggestions fron friends and family.

That was a great article. I'm glad I read his bio last year, very inspiring. I wasn't sure about the movie but I may check it out.

Sarah, I just saw Invictus yesterday. I liked it but I should also say I found that Clint Eastwood wanted to show a bit too much "pathos".. don't you think? I liked M.Freeman and Matt Damon too. The accent is really funny and I suppose it cost them a lot of hard work to learn it.
