English? Japanese? Who knows really

(Mmmm. Obama sushi.)

Somewhat inspired by something Julie wrote last week, sometimes an English phrase becomes so popular in Japan that it becomes everyday language and people start thinking it`s actually Japanese. `Bye bye`, `Hello`, `Thank you`, `What`s crackalackaling?` (no, not really)

True story :

Elementary School Child to me on the subway this morning: Yes, we can!

Sarah to Elementary School Child : Sure (usually I am more talkative and encouraging. But its Monday.)

Elementary School Child to Friend (in an excited psuedo whisper in Japanese) : That foreigner over there can speak Japanese! I just said` Yes We Can` to her and she understood me! Maybe she is fluent!`

Friend : Wow thats awesome.

Hahaha...I love Japan, and I've never even been there. In Lithuania, it was always funny to hear the English phrases that caught on. Most were phrases from a couple of years back. It seems Japan is more up-to-date ;)

I love it more when there are japanese words which consist of the English word with a U on the end.

Oh, Japan how you amaze me.

Yeah, the expression is so popular! If I kid said it to me, or a sarcastic friend, I wouldn't care.

But it sure gets old fast when you're out at night and drunk, socially awkward people see you.

Though my friend Mika spent two years in the states and said that she was so sick of drunk American people trying to pick her up by asking about what her favorite sushi is... ha.

Obamania seems to have spread all over the world....wonder if he's made out to be greater than who he really is though.

OMG that's so funny. I totally understand what you're talking about. When I was in the Philippines, I ate alot of tilapia and thought that's Tagalog. When I moved to the US, I saw tilapia (and it's named tilapia too) in the supermarket!
